UTMB 2022
I met Sacha at Geneva Airport and drove to Italy through the amazing Mont Blanc Tunnel. We headed to the hotel we had stayed in 8 years ago for our honeymoon - Hotel Panaromique. It was great to be back there with an incredible view of the Aosta Valley. Our balcony was a great place to sit at the end of the day and watch the light change. The days in Chamonix after my race was where the real fun started - watching the end of incredible races in an atmosphere I've never experienced before - the whole town was full of crazy fans, a party vibe, great restaurants and all the shops sold mountain and running gear. Chamonix is an incredible place in the clear bright sunlight with glaciers and mountains that look like their crashing down into town so close, fast flowing glacier melted rivers cutting right through the centre of town. It's kind of like heaven. We waited in the crowd to watch the runners - Kilian Journet and Mathieu Blanchard ran right past us, setting never before seen record times after an epic duel. It's taken me months to realise who some of the other runners are in my photos: Katy Schide, Dani Moreno, Tim Tollefson, Tom Evans, Zach Miller to name a few. All bonafide heroes with incredible stories to tell. Behind the famous finishing line we met YouTube trail running filmmakers and the elite runners. We took cheesy selfies. No one objected and everyone was lovely. After a few more runs around the Aosta valley, and some incredible pizza, it was time to start the long drive home.
